Staff Sergeant Brooks was a member of 129th Aviation Company, 268th Aviation Battalion, 17th Aviation Group. On May 13, 1969, he was the crew chief of a Bell Iroquois Utility Helicopter (UH-1H) during the insertion of Korean troops into Binh Dinh Province, South Vietnam when his aircraft was hit by ground fire and crashed. He was declared Missing in Action. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
