Sergeant First Class Boyle was a member of the 5th Special Forces Group. On February 28Staff Sergeant Swanson was a rifleman with Company B, 1st Battalion, 2nd Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. On October 31, 1968, he was on a reconnaissance mission near the Cambodian border in Tay Ninh Province, South Vietnam when the patrol was ambushed. He was wounded then declared Missing in Action. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial. he was a passenger on a Vietnamese Air Force Sikorsky Choctaw Cargo Helicopter (CH34) on a resupply mission in the tri-border area in Attopeu Province Laos when it was hit by enemy ground fire and exploded. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
