Cecil I. Bottenfield was born in Perry, Ohio on November 8, 1878. In 1900 he and his family lived in Nelson, Nebraska. On May 10, 1898, He enlisted the Nebraska Volunteer Infantry and served as a Corporal in Company H, 1st Regiment during the Spanish- American War. He was mustered out of the service on August 23, 1899. On December 18, 1915, he married Frances C. Walch. They moved to Bella Vista, Panama where he worked as an electrical contractor for the Panama Canal Company. He died at the Gorgas Hospital on February 6, 1941, was cremated and was buried at the Corozal American Cemetery near his wife, Frances.
