Seaman Bossman was a member of Helicopter Mine Countermeasures Squadron 363, Marine Air Group 16. On September 25, 1966, he was the pilot of a Sikorsky Seahorse Utility Helicopter (UH-34D) assigned a medical evacuation mission the Quang Tri Province, South Vietnam. When the helicopter was about 22 miles west of Dong Ha, Quang Tri Province it was hit by ground fire, crashed and exploded. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
