Airman Second Class Bishop was a member of the 34th Troop Carrier Squadron, 315th Troop Carrier Wing stationed at Brady Air Base, Kyushu, Japan. On October 16, 1952, he was a passenger on a C-46D Commando transport on a courier run between Kangnung Air Field (K-18) to Pohang Air Field (K-3) when it crashed into the sea killing all 25 servicemen on board.
