Max Holmer Bilgray was an American born in 1884 and living in Panama. He died on November 26, 1958. He was buried at the Mt. Hope Cemetery then reinterred at the Corozal American Cemetery in 1979.
In 1955, President Ricardo Arias of the Republic of Panama, presented Mr. Bilgray, with the Republic of Panama’s award, the National Order of Vasco Nunez de Balboa. President Arias presented the award to Bilgray for his contributions in maintaining outstanding international relations between the Republic of Panama and the United States. The Order of Vasco Nunez de Balboa was instituted by Law 94 of July 1, 1941. The Order of Vasco Nunez de Balboa is the Republic of Panama’s highest award. It is awarded in one of five grades.
