Jacob Bernson was born in Germany on June 17, 1881. He became naturalized American. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and was made a Sergeant in the Signal Corps during the Spanish-American War. After the war he moved to Panama and worked for the Panama Canal Company. Upon retirement he remained in Panama. He died on June 29, 1968 and was buried at the Corozal American Cemetery.
