Oliver Wendel Barth was born in Missouri on December 21, 1896. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was promoted to Chief Carpenter's Mate during World War I. After the war he worked as a civilian for the U.S. Navy. After retirement he remained in Panama. He died on March 21, 1968. He was buried at the Mt. Hope Cemetery then reinterred at the Corozal American Cemetery in 1979.
