Harriet Semmes Avery was born in Alabama on July 4, 1839. She married Alfred Benton Avery and moved with him to Cristobal, Canal Zone in 1905. She died on March 6, 1917. She was buried at the Mt. Hope Cemetery then reinterred next to her husband at the Corozal American Cemetery in 1979.
