Warrant Officer, First Class Algaard was a member of the 138th Army Security Agency (ASA) Company, 224th ASA Battalion, U.S. Army Security Group. On March 4, 1971, he was the co-pilot of a Beech Ute Test Aircraft (JU-21A) on a combat mission over the Demilitarized Zone over North Vietnam when contact was lost. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
