ABMC Cemeteries to host centennial events as ABMC turns 100 on March 4, 2023
As the American Battle Monuments Commission (ABMC) turns 100 on March 4, 2023, all ABMC cemeteries across the globe will host centennial events to mark the agency’s 100-year anniversary and honor the legacy of the service members buried or memorialized at our sites.
Details of the events can be found below.
Starting at 4 p.m., local time, the event will consist of a ceremony during which wreaths will be laid in honor of the fallen service members remembered at our cemetery. |
Starting at 2 p.m., local time, the event will consist of a humble ceremony after which an olive tree will be planted in honor of ABMC’s centennial and in remembrance of the fallen service members commemorated at our cemetery. |

Flanders Field American Cemetery Starting at 4:25 p.m., local time, the event will consist of a ceremony during which wreaths will be laid and the flag will be lowered in remembrance of the fallen service members honored at our cemetery. |

Henri-Chapelle American Cemetery Starting at 4:15 p.m., local time, the event will consist of a ceremony during which wreaths will be laid followed by the lowering of the colors in honor of the fallen service members remembered at our cemetery. |
Lafayette Escadrille Memorial Cemetery Starting at 4 p.m., local time, the event will consist of a ceremony during which wreaths will be laid in honor of the fallen service members remembered at our cemetery. |

Starting at 6:30 p.m., local time, the centennial celebration will continue with a ceremony and luminary, as candles will be placed on each headstone, which will be concluded at 9 p.m. with the lowering of the colors in remembrance of the fallen service members honored at our cemetery. On Saturday, March 4, and Sunday, March 5, our staff will offer guided tours and talks to visitors: The event is free and open to the public. Please note that the cemetery on March 4 will close at 9:30 p.m. (last admission at 9 p.m.) for this special occasion. |
North Africa American Cemetery Starting at 4 p.m., local time, the event will consist of a ceremony, which will begin with the planting of an olive tree to mark ABMC's centennial, followed by remarks and a wreath laying. |

Our staff will also be providing a guided tour of Montsec Monument, located about 12 miles (20 kilometers) from the cemetery. |
