Technical Sergeant Mello was a crew member of a C-130 Hercules transport with the U.S. Air Force. On September 2, 1958, a Soviet MiG-17 shot down the C-130 over Soviet Armenia. All 17 on board were killed. His remains were returned in 1998. |
