Major Evans was a member of the 3909th Headquarters Squadron, 3909th Airborne Operations Group stationed at Lakenheath, England. On July 10, 1953, he was the co-pilot of a C-47 Skytrain transport traveling from Lakenheath to Sola Airfield, Stavanger, Norway. When the aircraft was about to land, it was hit by a Norwegian F-86 jet and crashed killing all ten airmen on board. |
