Major Lawrence was the pilot of a F-84E Thunderjet fighter with the 9th Fighter Bomber Squadron, 49th Fighter Bomber Wing. On August 15, 1951, while on a combat mission, his aircraft suffered a mid-air collision with his wingman and exploded 20 miles south of Itazuke, Japan. |
