Major Cale was the co-pilot of a C97A transport from the 1600th Air Transport Wing, Atlantic Division, Military Air Transport Service at Westover Air Force Base. His aircraft was making practice landings at Kelly Air Force base, Texas, when its left flap froze in the downward position causing the plane to crash into two buildings killing all on board. |
