Sergeant Meckler was an aircraft and engine mechanic on temporary duty with the 830th Bomber Squadron, 509th Bomber Wing at Walker Air Force Base, New Mexico. On March 23, 1951, he was a crew member of a Douglas C-124A GlobemasterII enroute from Limestone-Loring Air Force Base to Lakenheath Air Force Base, United Kingdom when it disappeared about four hundred and fifty miles off the west coast of Ireland, killing all 53 airman on board. |
