Major Hatch was a veteran of World War II. During the Korean War, he was a member of the Air Force Training Squadron at Nellis Air Force Base, Las Vegas, Nevada. On September 8, 1952, he was killed when his F-80 aircraft exploded and crashed near Indian Springs, Nevada.
