Staff Sergeant Ranes was the tail gunner of a B-26B Invader bomber with the 729th Bomber Squadron, 452nd Bomber Wing. On March 24, 1951 while flying a low level mission five miles north of Sunan, his aircraft was hit by anti-aircraft fire. He was listed as Missing in Action and was presumed dead on December 31, 1953. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial. |
