USNA Class of 1948, Lieutenant Jeffries was assigned to the Naval Air Station, Kingsville, Texas. On February 19, 1954, he was on a cross country flight when his aircraft developed engine trouble. Although ordered to parachute to safety, he chose to remain aboard and guide his aircraft to avoid injuring the people on the ground. His plane crashed near the city of Lake Charles, Louisiana and he died of his injuries. |
