Aviation Machinist's Mate Second Class Bormann was a crew member of a Martin P5M-1 Marlin patrol bomber with Patrol Squadron 46, based at Naval Air Station Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii. On May 21, 1954, while flying about 400 miles east of Hawaii, both engines failed and the aircraft broke up on a dead stick landing. Four crew members were killed and six were rescued by Landing Ship Tank (LST) 975. |
