Chief Aviation Machinist's Mate Clements was a crew member of a P2V-5 Neptune patrol bomber with Patrol Squadron 18, based at Naval Air Station Keflavik, Iceland. On October 18, 1953, the engine failed after takeoff and the plane ditched 50 miles southwest of Iceland, killing 9 crewmen. |
