Private First Class Surgue was a passenger on a C-82A transport with the 475th Field Artillery Battalion stationed at Fort Campbell, Kentucky. On June 3, 1951, his plane took off from Campbell Air Force Base, Kentucky enroute to Fort Sill, Oklahoma. As it approached New Boston, Texas, it suffered structural failure of a wing and crashed, killing all eight servicemen on board. |
