Corporal Payne was a member of Company E, 2nd Battalion, 279th Infantry Regiment, 45th Infantry Division. He was seriously wounded by the enemy in North Korea on June 22, 1952 and returned to duty on August 9, 1952. He was drowned by a flash flood while crossing the river near Inje, North Korea on August 18, 1952. |
