Sergeant First Class Smith was a member of the 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. He was seriously wounded by the enemy in South Korea on September 22, 1950 and returned to duty the following day. He was seriously wounded again in North Korea on November 13 1950 and returned four days later. He was taken Prisoner of War while fighting the enemy in North Korea on November 26, 1950 and died while a prisoner on May 30, 1951. |
