Master Sergeant Miles was serving as an air-ground controller for Company K, 3rd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division. On July 12, 1951, while flying in a AT-6D Mosquito observation aircraft, it was hit by ground fire, crashed and burned near Ousil, Korea. He was listed as Missing in Action and was presumed dead on December 31, 1953. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial. |
