Captain Zukowski was a member of the 34th Tactical Fighter Squadron at Takhli Air Base, Thailand. On February 11, 1969, he was the pilot of a Thunderchief Fighter (F-105D) on a mission over Laos, where his aircraft was shot down. His remains were recovered on April 1, 1996 and identified on October 18, 1996. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
