Specialist Fourth Class Tyler was a member of Company B, 1st Battalion, 23rd Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. He was killed when his nine-man patrol was fired on by North Koreans south of the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) on February 12, 1967.
