Colonel Springston was a member of the 13th Bomber Squadron, Phan Rang Air Base, South Vietnam. On June 3, 1967, he was the navigator of a Martin Canberra Bomber (B-57B) on an armed reconnaissance 3 miles southwest of Vinh Son, North Vietnam. Radio contact was lost and he was declared missing. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
