Seaman Sansone was a crew member of the Cruiser USS NEWPORT NEWS (CA-148) stationed in the Gulf of Tonkin off shore from the Demilitarized Zone. On August 10, 1972, he was accidentally thrown overboard by a five inch gun mount jolting. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
