Lieutenant Junior Grade Romano, U.S. Naval Reserve, was a member of Carrier Airborne Early Warning Squadron 13, U.S. Navy. On June 2, 1965, he was a crew member of a Douglas Skyraider Electronic Surveillance Aircraft (EA-1F) on a search and rescue mission over North Vietnam while circling the downed pilot in the South China Sea, the aircraft was hit by enemy fire and crashed near Sam Son, Nghe An Province. His remains were recovered on July 13, 1988 and identified on November 14, 1988. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
