Major Rexroad was a member of the 11th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron. On April 3, 1968, he was the pilot of a McDonnell Phantom II Reconnaissance Fighter (RF-4C) on a mission over North Vietnam, when his aircraft crashed. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
