Captain Potts was a member of SU-1, 1st Air-Naval Gunfire Liaison Company. On April 7, 1972, he was flying in a North American Rockwell Bronco (OV10-A) over South Vietnam when it crashed and he was taken prisoner. He died in captivity at Quang Binh. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
