Staff Sergeant Platt was a member of Company B, 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry Regiment, 101st Airborne Division. On June 10, 1967, he was a member of a ten man patrol on a search and destroy mission operating about five miles southwest of Mo Duc, Quang Ngai Province, South Vietnam. His patrol was ambushed and he was wounded twice. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
