Private First Class Newman was awarded the Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, the Combat Infantryman Badge, the Korean Service Medal, the United Nations Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Presidential Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
Notes

Pfc. Newman was a member of Company B, 1st Battalion, 9th Infantry Regiment, 2nd Infantry Division. He was seriously Wounded in Action by the enemy in South Korea on August 12, 1950 and returned to duty on September 6, 1950. He was listed as Missing in Action while fighting the enemy in South Korea on November 27, 1950. He was presumed dead on December 31, 1953. His remains were not recovered at the time. Through the work of the Defense Department of Defense, the remains of Pfc. Lamar E. Newman were accounted for in 2018. His name is permanently inscribed in the “Courts of the Missing” at the Honolulu Memorial.
