Captain McMurray was a member of 9th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division. On April 7, 1968, he was the pilot of a Bell Sioux Observation Helicopter (OH-13) to provide armed helicopter support of a reconnaissance mission in South Vietnam. His aircraft was hit by enemy ground fire, started burning and crashed. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
