Captain Holton was a member of the 497th Tactical Fighter Squadron, Ubon Airfield, Thailand. On January 29, 1969, he was the bombardier/navigator of a McDonnell Douglas Phantom II Fighter (F-4D) on a mission over the Mu Gia Pass, Laos, when his aircraft was hit by hostile fire and crashed. His remains were not recovered at the time. In 2017 his remains were identified by the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency in 2017. His name is permanently engraved on the "Walls of the Missing" at the Honolulu Memorial.
