In May 2016, the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency exhumed the remains of an Unknown Soldier buried in Plot F Row 6 Grave 108 at Manila American Cemetery with the belief that an identification could be made. DNA analysis and historical evidence were used to positively identify the remains as belonging to Pvt. William D. Gruber, who served in the 93rd Bomber Squadron, 19th Bomber Group, Heavy, and lost his life on September 27, 1942. His name is permanently inscribed on the Walls of the Missing at Manila American Cemetery.
