Captain Grubb was a member of the 12th Tactical Reconnaissance Squadron. On September 17, 1967, he was the pilot of a McDonnell Phantom II Reconnaissance Fighter (RF-4C) on a mission about 5 miles north of the Demilitarized Zone in Quang Binh Province, North Vietnam. His aircraft was hit by hostile fire and crashed. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
