Staff Sergeant Elliott was a member of 282nd Assault Helicopter Company, 212nd Aviation Battalion, 17th Aviation Group, 1st Aviation Brigade. On January 21, 1968, he was the door gunner of a Bell Iroquois Utility Helicopter (UH-1D) inserting South Vietnamese troops at an old French fort near Khe Sanh, South Vietnam. When the aircraft was on the ground North Vietnamese troops attacked. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
