Seaman (E2) Dykema was an optical specialist serving aboard the repair ship USS CADMUS (AR-14) at the Charleston Naval Base, South Carolina. On September 24, 1951, he was electrocuted while working on a heavy scaling machine on board ship as it was docking at Charleston.
