Sergeant Dyer was a member of Detachment B-52 DELTA, 5th Special Forces Group. On December 2, 1966, he was a medic flying in a Bell Iroquois Utility Helicopter (UH-1D) for an extraction of a long range reconnaissance patrol over Laos. The aircraft was hit, crashed and burned. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
