Specialist, Fifth Class Deere was a member of Detachment A-331, 5th Special Forces Group. On May 17, 1966, he was a member of a mobile strike force in South Vietnam, that was in contact with the enemy, when he was wounded. before he could be rescues he was hit a second time. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
