Major Clark was a member of the 416th Tactical Fighter Squadron. On February 8, 1969, he was the pilot of a North American Super Sabre Fighter (F-100D) on a mission over the Ho Chi Minh Trail just northwest of the Demilitarized Zone in Laos, when his aircraft was shot down by hostile fire. His remains were recovered and identified on June 29, 2011. His name is permanently inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
