Sergeant First Class Bader was a member of Military Assistance Command Vietnam Studies and Observation Group, 5th Special Forces Group. On November 30, 1968, he was a passenger in a Vietnamese Air Force Sikorsky Choctaw Cargo Helicopter (CH34) being transported to his reconnaissance area in Laos, when the aircraft was hit by 37mm anti-aircraft fire and crashed 10 miles northwest of Khe San, just into Laos east of Tchepone. His remains were recovered on March 26, 1989 and identified on February 1, 1990. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
