Bernard Arden was born in Germany on February 1, 1872. He immigrated to the United States and became a naturalized American citizen. He moved to Panama to work for the Health Department, Panama Canal Company. Upon retirement, he remained in Panama. He died on April 1, 1945 and was buried at the Corozal American Cemetery.
