Colonel Anderson was a member of the 25th Tactical Fighter Squadron, Ubon Airfield, Thailand. On October 6, 1972, he was the pilot of a McDonnell Douglas Phantom II Fighter (F-4E) on a mission northeast of Hanoi near Son Tay, North Vietnam. As he approached the target his aircraft was hit by hostile fire. He ejected and landed safely, but contact was lost. His remains were recovered on September 13, 1990 and identified on October 22, 1998. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.
